A video surfaced on Twitter on Wednesday, in which an elderly couple running ‘Baba Ka Dhaba’ told that their work has come to a standstill after the lockdown and only the number of customers come to the Dhaba. Sharing this video, Aam Aadmi Party MLA Somnath Bharti wrote that tomorrow he will go to this Dhaba and help this elderly couple. Kanta Prasad and his wife Badami Devi run ‘Baba Ka Dhaba’ together. Situated in B block in front of Hanuman Temple in Shivalik Colony, Malviya Nagar, South Delhi, this Dhaba is served from tea-breakfast to lunch. The elderly Kanta Prasad is very happy to see his video going viral and a bunch of customers gathered at the Dhaba and, he also giving thanks to the people who visit the Dhaba. He told that earlier no one visits his Dhaba and now it seems that the whole of India is with him.

80-year-old Kanta Prasad has been running this Dhaba since 1988.

When asked about Kanta Prasad, he said, ‘I am beyond 80 years of age and since 1988 we have been running this Dhaba. We arrive here around 6 am and the food is ready by 9:30 Am”. Earnings are negligible, because of low customer demand most of the food became waste, they move towards home with left food. Pulses, rice, vegetables, roti, parathas, tea make all the food. The family has two sons and a daughter, but no one helps. Before the lockdown, the work used to go well, but now there are very few customers.

Whatever food was left, they used to take it home, they used to eat it. Sometimes it happened that if there was no ration, then we had to be sleep hungry. Children do not give anything from their earnings. One son’s work is dropped due to some reasons and the other son who works, he gives nothing. The daughter is married but stays with us. There is a granddaughter, 12 years old … we have to take care of her studies also. A lot of people have come from this morning, so we are very happy, also all the food is finished. ‘
